the Rule of Thirds - Photography tip

Composition is key to any great photo. An often used guideline for composition is the Rule of Thirds. It's easy, and makes a photo more interesting to look at.


How does it work?
By dividing a photo in 9 equal parts (see drawing above) 2 horizontal and 2 vertical lines are drawn. According to the rule of thirds, the most important object or line should be positioned on one of these lines or crossing points. Horizons are often positioned on of the two horizontal lines, instead of right in the middle. The same goes for portraits with interesting backgrounds. More often than not, people are positioned on one of the vertical lines.

That wasn't to difficult right? A little practice will result in more interesting photos! Here are some examples:
